EastEnders: Sonia cries at the hospital
EastEnders fans were pleased to see Sonia Fowler (played by Natalie Cassidy) back on their screens this week, but even more surprised when she said she was jetting off to India. With so many questioning the storyline twist, perhaps the mother is going to return with Bex Fowler (Jasmine Armfield) in tow.
Last year, the actress who plays Bex announced she would be leaving the popular BBC soap.
It came after she spent six years on the show and after a difficult few months, she decided she needed to reevaluate her future in light of the boat tragedy.
It was a sad moment for Sonia, who waved goodbye to her daughter who was off travelling.
Now, it seems Sonia is following her daughter to India.

“Did you get my note?” She asked Martin Fowler (James Bye) after getting a drink in the Queen Vic.
Martin, who was propping up the bar replied: “No, I’ve not been home.”
“Well things, they haven’t been great, I feel like I need to hit the reset button. So, Ive decided to go to India to see Bex,” his ex-wife revealed.
“Wow, okay. That should do you some good. She’ll love it. When are you going?” He asked.
“Tonight! Cheap flight turned up so I grabbed it,” Sonia said. “You look like you could do with some cheering up – everything alright?”
While he tried to brush off his mood, Sonia probed: “It’s me you’re talking to, I think we’re a bit far down the line for secrets.”
“You can’t say anything to anyone,” Martin remarked. “Ruby’s pregnant.”
Those watching at home saw Sonia scoff at the news before finally saying: “Sorry, just a bit unexpected that’s all. I didn’t know you were trying.”

“We weren’t,” he commented, lifting his phone up to Sonia to show Ruby was calling him.
He made his excuses and said to Sonia he would wave her off at the tube station.
In a later scene, Martin asked Sonia to pass on his well-wishes to their daughter and have a good time.
But fans questioned the realism of the storyline.
Taking to Twitter to comment, one said: “Sonia, in the middle of a pandemic off to India.. clearly ESSENTIAL travel… NOT!! Such ridiculous storylines in #EastEnders.. no masks, etc.”
“Walford seems to have forgotten about all the global pandemic, apart from Sonia’s distress. #Eastenders,” another said.
A third wrote: “I wonder if Sonia will come back with a recast Bex though #EastEnders.”
“Sonia to return with Bex? Sonias return cant come quick enough! #EastEnders,” a tweet read.
EastEnders airs tomorrow night at 8pm on BBC One.
