And when soap villain Stuart Highway was shot in the Vic earlier this week, it looked like a brand new mystery had been cracked open onto the Square.
Sneak preview shots suggest Walford cops will be grilling the local residents to find out who pulled the trigger.
“After Stuart was shot in The Vic earlier in the week, DI Arthurs and his team are determined to nail the culprit, questioning the Carters and Halfway,” an official press release in relation to the BBC soap reveals.
“Fearing for her family, Linda feels the pressure and has a shocking revelation for Mick,” the teaser adds.
This news will only fuel fan speculation that Linda was the one to shoot Stuart.
On Tuesday night, viewers became suspicious of Linda after she was caught disposing of a gun by Keanu Taylor.
Viewers were on the edge of their seats as the Carter family gathered in the Queen Vic after the gun went off on Tuesday’s show.
Everyone looked guilty but it was Linda who gave away the most tell-tale signs, leaving fans convinced she pulled the trigger.
As the police and ambulance were dispatched to the boozer, Linda crept out and ran away to the canal.
She was then spotted rubbing the gun with a tea-towel to remove the fingerprints before dropping it into the murky water.
But in the bushes, Keanu – who was making a secret phone call to his lover Sharon Mitchell – was watching her.
Seeing her rubbing something together in her hands, he leant forward and caught a glimpse of the weapon before she dropped it into the water.
Fans were convinced it must have been Linda who shot Stuart but now she has to rely on Keanu’s silence to protect her.
One viewer tweeted: “OH Linda. Throwing the gun into the canal. Keanu saw you. #EastEnders #WhoShotStuart!”
