EastEnders spoilers: Gray Aktins’ dark domestic abuse exposed in twist you didn’t expect?

EastEnders’ newcomer Gray Atkins (played by Toby-Alexander Smith) was seen in one of the opening scenes of tonight’s episode, persuading his wife to go away for a romantic night together. Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer) was delighted by the spontaneous idea, but their plans were soon thwarted when their son became ill. In a shocking turn of events, could the domestic abuse storyline get one step closer to being exposed and give Chantelle the chance to escape the horror of a man she married?

Tonight, after finishing a phone call with the police, Gray turned to his wife, embraced her and said: “Let’s go out tonight. Me and you.”

“Yes. I suppose we could pop over the Vic?” Chantelle replied, thrilled by the idea of spending some alone time with her husband.

“I think we can do better than that! Don’t you?” He argued.

And when Chantelle asked him why the sudden change in behaviour, Gray said: “What is the point in me working all these hours, earning all this money, if we don’t make time to enjoy it? I’m thinking, swanky hotel?”

While Chantelle issued concerns about childcare, Gray said he would “sort it” and he did just that.

In later scenes, Chantelle’s mother Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) was persuaded to babysit and stay over the night at the Atkins’ house.

But as she enjoyed a movie that evening and tucked into a tub of ice-cream, she was interrupted when her grandson asked if he could have some.

Initially, offering him ice-cream was a thoughtful gesture, until he threw up all over the sofa and floor.

Not wanting to be honest to her daughter and tell her she had given her grandson too much ice-cream, Karen told her he had been unwell all afternoon and evening and insisted Chantelle and Gray return.

After less then a few hours out of the house, Gray and Chantelle returned to Walford to look after their poorly son.

And Gray did not seem best pleased with the change in plans.

“He didn’t seem ill when we left,” Chantelle said.

And Gray added: “Well, you’re mum said it was one of those 24 hour bugs.”

Bumping into Keegan Baker (Zack Morris) and Tiffany Butcher (Maisie Smith) in the Square, Gray explained: “Max is poorly. Apparently he just projectile vomited all over my sofa.

“Sort of thing that happens when you’re a parent. Especially when you make plans!”

Annoyed his romantic evening has been sabotaged, will he grow angry at take it out on Chantelle?
