EastEnders’ Mel Owen and Jack Branning could be heading for a split next week

EastEnders couple Jack Branning and Mel Owen could be heading for a split already when they are hit by fresh problems next week.

The pair have only been romantically involved for a few months, but Jack grows concerned about his future with Mel when it becomes clear that she isn’t understanding his responsibilities as a single parent.

After organising a romantic lunch for Jack, Mel (Tamzin Outhwaite) will be left irritated when he arrives with his daughter Amy in tow.

Disappointed that their date hasn’t gone as planned, things quickly go from bad to worse for Mel when Amy asks about her relationship with Jack.

Taken aback by Amy’s questions, a spooked Mel puts an early end to the lunch – upsetting Jack in the process.

Although Mel does try to make amends with Jack afterwards, she ends up verifying his concerns and digs an even deeper hole.

Desperate to sort things out with Jack, Mel later arrives at his house to apologise once again, but doesn’t anticipate his firm response.

Aware that he and Mel could be on very different pages over this, Jack gives her an ultimatum – insisting that his kids will always come first. Will Mel take Jack’s words on board? Or is their romance over already?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Monday, August 13 and Tuesday, August 14 on BBC One.
