Sheree (played by Suzette Llewellyn) arrived on EastEnders as the wife of Patrick (Rudolph Walker) as the childhood friends reconnected on a trip to Trinidad. It was later revealed the pair had a son, Isaac Baptiste (Stevie Basaula) and ever since the father-of-three has been trying to build a relationship with his estranged son. However, in the latest episode of the BBCc soap, Isaac’s mental health took a serious decline but his parents’ differing opinions on how to help him could lead to their divorce. Will Sheree exit in the process?
Thursday night’s instalment of the weeknight serial drama saw Sheree ringing the school where Isaac worked to tell them he would not be in.
The troubled character has been missing for a week and he turned up in the latest episode having been chucked out of a friend’s house.
“We’re just glad you’re back home. How about I make you some breakfast, and then you can tell us all about it?” Sheree asked her son.
“I think I’m going to get some sleep,” he replied, but his father was worried to what degree his schizophrenia had taken over.
“Strange that his friend threw him out, though. You think something happened there?” the soap stalwart asked his wife.
“That doesn’t matter now. A few weeks’ rest and he’ll be right as rain,” Sheree explained and later on, the two had an argument over their son’s treatment.
Patrick said: “Oh, come on, man, we can’t pretend that everything is fine. The first time we’ve seen the boy in a week, and Chelsea, she’s gone straight out of the door, and Isaac…”
However, Sheree cut him off before he could continue as she hit back at her husband’s suggestion: “He’s home now. He’s safe.”
“He’s home and rooting around looking for evidence against Ruby. Now, is that the actions of somebody who’s taking their medication and looking after themselves?” the father-of-three asked.
Trying to avoid her son getting medical help, Sheree explained: “These things take time. Just because he’s not all back to normal overnight, that doesn’t mean he’s not recovering.
“I’ve done this before, Patty. I know what I’m talking about.”
I can’t lose him again
“Maybe we could call the psych nurse,” Patrick said but his wife was strongly against the idea of her son talking to a medical professional.
Sheree said: “He’ll work him all up and fill out a load of paperwork but he can’t force Issac to take his medication any more than we can.
“Trust me, this has to come from us, from the people who love him,” she added and it wasn’t long before she was taking her anger out on Isaac’s girlfriend, Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold).
“She doesn’t know the first thing about what he needs right now,” the mother-of-one remarked as she told Patrick why she had been so harsh towards Lola.
“But you saw back there, he listened to her,” the soap stalwart remarked, making reference to how the young other helped her boyfriend go to bed.
“And look where that got him. He’s been stable for years, but a few months with her and he’s in pieces again,” Sheree said.
“I’m trying to bring him back from the edge here, and I need to know I can count on you,” she told her husband.
“We need to call his mental health team,” Patrick declared as he shared his worries over his troubled son.
“No, I can’t lose him again. They took him away from me, Patty. You don’t know what that feels like knowing your child is,” Sheree explained.
“All alone on a hospital ward, surrounded by strangers and the whole world knows that you’ve failed him.”
“So you tell me, how does that help him? I just need you to trust me,” she pleaded with her husband, who looked more and more concerned.
“I do, I do more than anyone. We’ll get him through this, together,” the father-of-three assured his wife.
However, it seems for the first time, the husband and wife are on the brink and their opposing positions on the situation could push them over the edge.
Having been somewhat secondary to the action on-screen recently, Sheree could decide it’s time to call time on her marriage to Patrick.
Not wanting to be haunted by the breakdown of her relationship, she could take herself and Isaac back to Trinidad in a heartbreaking end to their time on the Square.
EastEnders continues Friday at 8:35pm on BBC One.
