EastEnders fans' fury as Barbara Windsor is left off front of soap's 'best bits' DVD

The actress, 81, played Peggy Mitchell in the soapfrom 1994 up until 2010, and then came back in 2010 until 2016. She's currently battling Alzheimer’s.

The DVD – narrated by Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale – was released this week and is dubbed "the ultimate collection of the show's most iconic moments".

But people are up in arms that the nation's favourite landlady doesn't get a mention where it matters.

One fumed: “Peggy was the Queen Vic – she should be centre."

Another said: "Barbara should have been on the cover. No Peggy is bloody shocking!"

However, a spokesman for BBC Studios – the commercial arm of the the BBC that produced the DVD – insists she hasn't been snubbed – as she's on the back cover.

They said: “The Mitchells, including some of Peggy’s most memorable moments, feature prominently in the DVD’s content and on its sleeve."

Barbara’s spokesman declined to comment.

The front cover features the likes of Danny Dyer's character Mick Carter and Jessie Wallace's Kat Slater, among others.

Barbara's husband, Scott Mitchell, took the brave decision to finally reveal her illness as it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep it a secret.

He said: “We were really nervous about going public with the news…but when we did, there was such an incredible reaction of love and support.

“The public support has been mind-blowing.

"They’ve been so kind and compassionate.”
