EastEnders drops new hint on 'unspeakable' Christmas murder

A new arrival in EastEnders which has ‘seen it all’, according to George Knight (Colin Salmon), is set to play a pivotal role in the Christmas murder storyline, which was previewed in February.

A special flash-forward episode, which coincided with the popular soap’s 38th anniversary week, teased a killing over the festive season this year, with six of the show’s iconic matriarchs towering over a body in The Queen Vic.

The identity of the victim remains a mystery, with viewers desperately trying to figure out just who it is that will perish, with some even noticing a few clues here and there in both the flash-forward scene itself as well as in the subsequent, present-day episodes.

Monday’s (June 12) outing contained another hint, with the arrival of the knight in shining armour at the Vic, which is something new landlord George has a lot of affection for, telling Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) that it’s been a permanent fixture in every pub he ever owned.

Linda was baffled by the new arrival, which she branded ‘creepy’, believing that its presence in the pub will clash with her ‘cozy’ decor, but George insisted it was a necessary addition to the boozer.

Anna (Molly Rainford) got in on the fun, asking Linda to imagine the ‘stories’ the knight could tell, while Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) joked that it’s ‘seen it all’.

‘The good, the bad and the unspeakable!’, concluded George, with his voice descending into a more dramatic tone in a bid to leave Linda, and us, shaking in her boots.

While we’re not quite sure what the knight has been witness to in the past, it will see with its own eyes the murder at Christmas, with the flash-forward sequence earlier this year having confirmed such a thing.

And thus another piece of the puzzle is officially in place.

In addition to the knight, the wedding dress that Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) sports at Christmas time has also featured on-screen, though it’s currently in the hands of Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), meaning it will have to make its way to Sharon before the festive season.

EastEnders continues Tuesday June 13 at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
