EastEnders announce new Taylor family member as Chantelle arrives in the Square to go to war with mum Karen

The daughter of Karen Taylor and Mitch Baker will arrive in Albert Square in the New Year and immediately clashes with her mum.

Initially making a positive impact with her kind and bubbly nature, there's plenty more behind the easy-going girl next door facade.

Karen and Mitch are delighted to see their daughter in Walford but it soon becomes clear there’s some friction between mum and daughter.

Kate Oates, Senior Executive Producer EastEnders, said: “The Taylor family are set to be complete when Chantelle arrives in Walford and Chantelle certainly has that feisty Taylor streak. Things are set to get a whole lot louder in Walford in 2019.”

Casting for Chantelle is yet to be announced.

It's going to be a dramatic festive period for Karen after it was revealed she'll get another unexpected Christmas surprise Boxing Day when her ex Mitch turns up wanting to see his son, Keegan.

Karen – played by Lorraine Stanley in the BBC soap – is getting ready to host a family meal with sister Kandice when Mitch turns up at their door.

The launderette worker is stunned to see him, but quickly sends him on his way again.

She’s set for another shock later when the family sit down for dinner and Karen discovers that Kandice is hiding Mitch in the bathroom – and the pair’s surprise appearances are not coincidental.

But why is Kandice – Hannah Spearritt – covering for Mitch and how will Keegan react to seeing his father again?

It was revealed last month that Roger Griffiths would be returning to play dodgy Mitch.

He said of his return: “It feels great to be returning to Albert Square and working with the wonderful cast and crew again, especially the fantastic Taylor family."

He added: "I'm excited for the viewers to learn more about Mitch and see what trouble he gets himself into this time."

Roger made quite an impact as Mitch, who caused no end of trouble for the Taylors but managed to win over Karen's heart again.

He also struck up a bond with Keegan. However, he showed his true colours when he fled the Square with a wad of cash meant for Mr Murray.

Will he behave any better on his third reappearance in Albert Square? We certainly wouldn't bet on it.
