DIY SOS viewers all have the same complaint after emotional Children in Need special

DIY SOS viewers all have the same complaint after an emotional Children in Need special.

The special episode was filmed in Hull and saw comedian Rhod Gilbert take over from Nick Knowles as host.

Nick, 59, has presented DIY SOS for more than two decades, and the Children in Need special marked the first time he had been absent from proceedings.

However, the decision for Rhod, 53, to replace Nick did not go down well with some viewers.

One wrote on Twitter: "Should never have replaced @MrNickKnowles even if it is for one episode.”

Another added: "It’s not the same without @MrNickKnowles.”

A third tweeted: "Where’s Nick Knowles? Has he left the show? I’m not complaining, it’s just weird without him presenting.”

The episode in Hull saw Rhod and the team help St Michael’s Youth Project, which had hit on hard times.

The charity, which is funded by Children in Need, wanted to offer disadvantaged kids camping and adventure breaks, so the team helped transform the venue into a campsite and bike park.

Seeing the finished results left Rhod emotional and he said in a speech: "It’s all a bit much.

"I’m happy for you, happy for the kids, and happy for the guys who built it because I’ve seen what it took out of them and I’ve seen what it’s going to put back into them.”

The DIY SOS Children in Need special is available on BBC iPlayer.
