The EastEnders actor married his childhood sweetheart in 2016, having first met when they were 14.
But in an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine which has just resurfaced, Danny revealed how their relationship fell apart in the first few years of Dani's life.
He said: "I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t a dad. Me and Joanne had Dani when I was 18 and . . . f***ing hell, we were kids.
"She wasn’t planned, obviously, but I don’t regret a single moment and I love her to death.
"Yes, I was petrified about being a dad. I didn’t have a clue.
"Me and Joanne got together when I was 14 — childhood sweethearts and all that."
After splitting up when Love Island winner Dani – now 21- was three, Danny and Jo both started seeing other people, but Danny admitted he "wasn't happy".
He continued: "I hated it. I missed them both and decided I’d do everything in my power to get them back.
"I used to pick up Dani every Sunday for three hours and cuddle her like mad.
"I don’t know if Joanne saw how much I missed ’em, but the visits started getting longer and we’d sit down with a cup of tea.
"Next minute… we’re having an affair. I said: 'F*** this! We’re sneaking around like schoolkids. We’ve got a beautiful girl. Let’s give it a go'."
The couple went on to have two more children, a son and a daughter, but their relationship hit a snag last year when Danny moved out for a while.
However they were able to get their relationship back on track and are now happier than ever.
In the interview Danny described Jo as a "rock", adding: "She's the engine room that runs this family."
