Dancing on Ice’s Saara Aalto fell head first onto ice seconds before her routine

Saara Aalto fell head first onto the ice just seconds before going onto the rink in Dancing on Ice .

The former X Factor star and her partner, Hamish Gaman, were trying out a move before they did their Pinocchio-themed routine in Sunday’s show.

But just as they were practising one of their moves, Saara slipped and fell to the ice – head first.

She was quickly checked over by the doctors before heading on to the ice, but This Morning’s Dancing on Ice contributor, Kem Cetinay, said they were "in tears" before they did their performance only moments later.

Kem told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: "Before [her performance] Saara fell down and hit her head straight on the ice. I was there and I saw it and all the medics came out and it happened literally 30 seconds before she went out to perform."

Watching the footage for the first time, Phil commented: "She is proper face down, and this is literally seconds before she was about to be introduced to go on stage."

Kem looked concerned as he continued: "I caught up with Hamish afterwards and he was so emotional, he was crying because he said it was literally 30 seconds before they went out.

"And they were just practising something and she just slipped, face straight on the ice and she just didn’t know what to do. It was so hard."

At this, Holly said "adrenalin took over" before they then watched clips of their performance, which showed no sign of the drama which took place just moments before.

Kem commented on their puppet-style performance, saying: "She was so good, in character the whole time."

Saara scored the top scores of the girls left in the competition, coming third on the night overall.

Beating her were James Jordan and Wes Nelson , with James scoring 36.5, which is just 3.5 points off full marks.

Dancing on Ice airs Sundays at 6pm and This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
