Dancing on Ice 2019 announces former Neighbours star Mark Little as eighth contestant

Former Neighbours star Mark Little has been announced as the eighth celebrity to join the 2019 series of Dancing on Ice.

The actor, who played Joe Mangel between 1988 and 1991 in addition to a brief stint in 2005, confirmed that he will be taking to the ice rink on the ITV show while appearing on today’s Build Series London.

“I’m not a youngster,” he said, laughing. “But it’s not about age, it’s about poise!

“I think it’s a real shame that we don’t do more of it – dancing – because it’s a good social… it’s really good for the soul. Everybody can dance. Bad dancing is still dancing!”

Mark added: “There’ll be performance anxiety, but it’s the reason I love this job – this fear factor of going out and performing and doing a good job with all of the work we’ve done and trying to make it as easy and gorgeous as possible.

“It’s going to be really exciting. And really nerve-wracking.”

The actor also named James Jordan as a strong favourite to win the competition, mentioning the former Strictly Come Dancing star’s dancing experience.

“I’ll be keeping a little eye on him,” Mark said, although he added that he doesn’t think James has an unfair advantage. “It all depends on how much he’s skated. If he was an ice dancer, then I would think [differently].

“I don’t know if it’s to do with my Australian DNA or something, but I’m in it to win it. I’ve got a competitive edge. And I think he’s the same.

“If he’s not skated before, he’ll know the dangers and it won’t be as easy for him.

“For me, it’s good, because it makes me think, ‘I’m really going to have to lift my game if I’m going to get ahead in this, because there’s a dancer in the mix’.”

Reality TV star Gemma Collins, EastEnders‘ Richard Blackwood, singer Brian McFadden, Loose Women‘s Saira Khan, cricketer Ryan Sidebottom, and Pussycat Dolls’ Melody Thornton are also part of the line-up.

Melody, who was confirmed this morning, said at the time of the announcement: “I guess the cat’s out of the bag. I’m so excited, I can’t wait to see you and I can’t wait to do some skating for you!”

Dancing on Ice returns next year on ITV.
