Dancing on Ice 2019 announces Coronation Street legend Jane Danson for show

Dancing on Ice is announcing contestants left, right and centre at the moment, and we now know the latest celebrity to get their skates on.

On today’s (October 4) Loose Women, it was revealed that Coronation Street star Jane Danson would be the ninth contestant to take to the ice rink.

The Leanne Battersby actress revealed that she has been keeping the secret since July, and she is “seeing it as a challenge”.

Jane revealed that she was getting advice from previous Corrie stars who have done the show, explaining: “I’m getting loads of tips from Samia [Longchambon], and Brooke [Vincent] and Antony [Cotton], and Andrew Whyment’s done it before, so I’ve got real lovely support from the cast.”

As for how it may affect her storylines on the soap, she continued: “[Leanne’s] not going to be going too far. I’ll still be there but maybe not as much as I usually am. Obviously it’s a huge commitment and I want to get stuck into it. I’m going to have a quieter patch within the story.

“We’ve just filmed loads of busy stuff that comes on next week. Because of the way the story’s going, it’s meant I can take a little bit of time away.”

Interestingly, Jane’s fellow Corrie star and former Dancing on Ice contestant Brooke told Digital Spy earlier this year that the Leanne actress was interested, revealing: “Jane Danson said she might have a go.”

Earlier today, it was revealed that another soap legend – Neighbours‘ Mark Little – would be taking part in the ITV series, as he revealed the news on Build Series London.

“I’m not a youngster,” he said. “But it’s not about age, it’s about poise! I think it’s a real shame that we don’t do more of it – dancing – because it’s really good for the soul. Everybody can dance. Bad dancing is still dancing!”

Pussycat Dolls singer Melody Thornton was also announced earlier today on Good Morning Britain, saying: “I guess the cat’s out of the bag. I’m so excited, I can’t wait to see you and I can’t wait to do some skating for you!”

They will all be joining previously-announced contestants, including reality TV star Gemma Collins, EastEnders‘ Richard Blackwood, former Strictly pro James Jordan, singer Brian McFadden, Loose Women‘s Saira Khan and cricketer Ryan Sidebottom.

Dancing on Ice returns next year on ITV.
