Crashing Cancelled at HBO

It’s last call for HBO’s Crashing: Pete Holmes’ semi-autobiographical comedy has been cancelled at the premium cabler after three seasons, TVLine has confirmed.

Executive producer Judd Apatow first hinted at Crashing‘s demise during Thursday’s episode of Conan, but suggested that he and Holmes were given advanced notice to write this Sunday’s Season 3 finale as a series finale.

“We were very happy that we got to tell the story that we wanted to tell,” Apatow said. “And we do have an ending, and I think it’s a beautiful season.”

In Crashing — one of TVLine’s Peak TV Treasures — Holmes stars as a squeaky-clean aspiring comic whose life falls apart when he discovers that his wife is cheating on him. He resorts to crashing on the couches of comedian friends while he gradually hones his stand-up act to the point where the audience is actually laughing with him, and not at him. By Season 3, Pete has a newfound confidence in his comedic abilities, as well as a new girlfriend named Kat.

The Season 3/series finale is set to air this Sunday at 10:10 pm. TVLine’s Cable Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect the cancellation news.
