Craig Revel Horwood says Strictly Come Dancing will 'kill off' X Factor

The acid-tongued judge, 53, says Simon Cowell's TV talent show has no chance of clawing back fans after years of dwindling ratings.

Craig is certain viewers will tune in and watch Strictly over X Factor as the shows prepare to go head-to-head in the autumn ratings war.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: “The X Factor has got no chance of beating Strictly this year.

"They haven’t got a hope, darling.

“Strictly is extraordinary and is the biggest show on TV and every year it goes from strength to strength.

"That is because people love it and the quality of the celebrities they have on there and that people really want to learn to dance.

"With Strictly there is not anything made up about it.

"It is all real and done in real time. I think that is charming.

"And how many other shows can you watch together as a family?"

Last night, Strictly and X Factor clashed for 30 minutes.

For its launch show last weekend, X Factor – with Simon, Louis Tomlinson, Robbie Williams and Ayda Field as judges – saw its ratings drop to 5.7million viewers, its worst in 14 years.

In contrast, a peak audience of of 8.5 million viewers tuned in as this year's Strictly Come Dancing launched on BBC One last night.

A source added: "If ratings continue to fall, ITV could axe The X Factor as early as next year when its contract expires."
