Countryfile: ‘Really quite grim’ Viewers perplexed by deer legs placed in rivers

Countryfile viewers saw Joe Crowley taking on a new issue this evening, as he ventured into the Scottish highlands to look at the declining salmon rates.

However after investigation why the salmon were no longer surviving in the Scottish rivers, he began looking at how to replenish the benefits the rivers were missing.

And one of his guests, Edwin, had a strange method of doing so: by hammering deer legs into the river.

Joe arrived looking a little confused, before asking: “What are you doing?”

To which Edwin replied: “I’m putting some deer legs in the river.”

Unsure about what exactly was going on, Joe continued: “Of course you are…”

Edwin later explained that when salmon die in the river their carcass’s nutrients would aid the river, its insects, and its bacteria.

And the deer’s legs were hammered into the river bed to replace the missing nutrients.

But viewers of the show were completely perplexed by the inclusion of the segment, prompting them to begin speaking out on Twitter.

One wrote: “#countryfile is really quite grim today – deer legs in the river? when will man stop interfering with nature!? Awful.”

Another said: “#Countryfile I don’t think I wanted to know they hammer deer legs into the river.”

While a third jumped in to ask: “Sorry, have I missed why there’s a deer’s hoof poking out of the river? #Countryfile.”
