Coronation Street's Rob Mallard reveals he secretly split with boyfriend over Christmas

The 26-year-old actor – who plays Daniel Osbourne in the ITV soap – has confirmed the split after the pair decided to end their six months romance.

A source exclusively revealed to The Sun Online: "Rob and Ben decided to end things over Christmas.

"Things weren't working out and they came to the decision together after a lot of talking.

"It's sad but it's the best thing for both of them to end things and move on.

"There was no-one else involved, things just came to a natural end."

Corrie fans feared the pair had split over Christmas after Ben posted a series of mysterious updates to his social media accounts.

Ben posted a picture of a broken heart before posting more cryptic messages online later.

One included a picture of him and Rob with reference to Ariana Grande's hit song, Thank You, Next.

The couple only took their relationship public at the Coronation Street Christmas party in December.

A spokeswoman for Rob and Ben exclusively confirmed the split to The Sun Online, saying: "Rob and Ben are no longer together.

"It was a mutual separation. Both would appreciate privacy in this personal matter."

Rob has won a host of awards since joining the soap as Ken Barlow's youngest son Daniel. He is currently facing heartbreak as his wife Sinead Tinker undergoes emergency treatment for cervical cancer while their baby Berties fights for his life after being born prematurely.
