Seb (played by Harry Visinoni) recently riled Gary (Mikey North) on Coronation Street as the youngster made a move on his boss’s girlfriend Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) believing the factory worker was leading him on.
After the truth was revealed, Seb and Gary ended up in a violent altercation, leading the young builder to lose his job which only escalated to his growing list of problems having had issues with his mother, Abi Franklin (Sally Carmen).
However, Seb is one of the current suspects to become the ITV soap’s new super villain after the Underworld factory roof collapse, with the youngster seemingly wanting to get revenge on Gary and possibly frame him for the carnage after their confrontation.
Though, his angst with Gary gets put to the back of his mind when he meets newcomer Alina (Ruxandra Porojnicu) in upcoming scenes, but little does he know, the nail bar worker is hiding a dark secret.
After weeks of uncertainty regarding his career prospects, Seb finally gets a job at a nail salon close to Weatherfield, where he is tasked with fixing a loo.
However, whilst completing his work, Seb catches the eye of nail bar technician Alina and although the young builder tries to work his charms, his efforts fall flat as the newcomer is dismissive of his affections.
Deflated a new romance isn’t on the horizon, Seb will come across his old boss Gary who has been beaten up at the builders’ yard, having found himself embroiled in a dark plot with loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood).
Having failed to make repayments and reluctant to join the loan shark in conning his neighbours, Rick will get payback when he breaks into the builder’s van and steals his tools, leaving Gary unable to work.
After seeing Gary in such a state however, Seb’s luck will change once more when Alina agrees to go on a date with him after their initial meeting at the nail bar.
Arranging to meet the nail bar technician at the Speed Daal restaurant, Seb is excited to see Alina again but is soon left deflated when she makes an excuse to leave early.
Highlight slavery hides in plain sight
However prior to their date, Seb doesn’t realise Alina has a connection to Jan (Piotr Baumann), one of Gary’s co-workers who had been working on the factory roof before the collapse.
Jan is having a bite to eat with Seb’s landlord Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) as the pair get closer to one another and when Alina clocks the builder she makes her excuses to leave him on his own.
Though, could Seb become suspicious of Alina and Jan’s connection if he realises the builder is the reason his new love interest became so anxious?
As the plot thickens, it will emerge Alina is part of a human trafficking ring, with her and other girls at the nail bar brought over from Eastern Europe to work on the site whilst living in “squalid conditions”.
Seb will uncover the dark plot in the coming weeks as he tries to discover why Alina is being so dismissive of him, but if Jan has some involvement, will the builder silence Seb to keep the secret hidden?
Speaking of the plot last month, executive producer for the soap, Iain MacLeod said: “This is one of the biggest hidden scandals in the UK today.
“Our research has shown us that in many towns and cities across Britain, people are being forced to work against their will, living in extreme poverty and in fear for their safety, all so ruthless criminal gangs can get rich at their expense.
“We are keen to highlight that slavery hides in plain sight – the salon which does your nails for a too-good-to-be-true price, the car wash which valets your hatchback for half the going rate… these could all be staffed by people who are being coerced, threatened and exploited.
“Yes, they might seem upbeat and friendly to talk to – but is there something darker and more tragic going on that we don’t stop to notice? If you’re getting a service for a price that seems unreal, ask yourself how that’s possible.”
Will Seb manage to free Alina from the grips of her actors, or will he find himself in danger as he presses the masterminds behind the criminal enterprise?
Elsewhere on the cobbles, could Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) have already discovered the identity of Weatherfield’s new super villain?
Coronation Street continues Wednesday at 7.30pm on ITV.
