Coronation Street spoilers: Sally Metcalfe attacked by Abi Franklin in prison as she resorts to drastic measures to delay her trial

As the week in Weatherfield gets underway, things aren’t looking great for Sally’s upcoming trial as her husband Tim Metcalfe and sister Gina Seddon struggle to find her a character witness from the council.

There’s more bad news when Sally’s solicitor Paula Cunliffe discovers that the judge girlfriend Sophie Webster insulted at Speed Dahl will be overlooking Sally’s case.

As the trial kicks off, Sally – played by Corrie legend Sally Dynevor in the ITV soap – is left reeling when Duncan Radfield – the man who was really responsible for the crime she’s being accused of – takes to the stand and explains how he fell madly in love with Sally and that she persuaded him to defraud the council.

Sally is horrified as Duncan paints himself as an innocent victim and has the jury eating out if his hand.

Later Paula frantically tries to get Sally to remember what she did on her birthday as Duncan is claiming they spent the night together at a hotel.

Sally’s ex-husband Kevin Webster remembers that on the evening of her birthday Sally was in hospital visiting his son Jack who was very poorly with sepsis.

Paula and Sophie set about getting the CCTV footage but it looks like it could take days.

Sophie hatches a plan and tells her mum to pretend she’s ill so the case is adjourned and they have more time to get the footage.

But when Sally can’t face making herself sick her new cellmate Abi Franklin – Sally Carmen – comes up with a plan and lamps Sally one.

As everyone arrives at court, they’re stunned to find out that Sally is in hospital and Sophie admits she told her mum to pretend to be ill.

Will Sally and Abi’s plan pay off and buy them extra time?
