Why does Gemma decide to take up vlogging in Coronation Street?
Next week’s episodes of Corrie will see Gemma find new strength when she opens up to a support group about her postnatal depression.
She bravely opens up to the group about the nightmares she’s been having where she harms her babies and is surprised to find comfort in sharing her experience.
She’s thrilled when she gets a supportive reaction from the other mums and realises she’s not alone in her battle with depression.
Later in the week, Gemma confides in Sean about her depression and he suggests vlogging and putting her experiences with her quads online.
Gemma laps up the idea and sets about filming her first vlog, talking about her experience as a mother and slamming the Fescho ad campaign for the way it creates an impossible family ideal.
Might Gemma have found a way to battle her loneliness and depression?
What do we know about Gemma’s battle with postnatal depression?
Corrie viewers were devastated to watch Gemma battle severe mental health issues in the wake of the birth of her four quads.
To make matters worse, Gemma was mocked and bullied by the other mums at her baby and parent group after she dozed off in storytime during one session.
When the bullying dawned on the new mum, she convinced herself she was a terrible mother and was plunged deeper into her depression.
But Gemma eventually sought help when Chesney realised she was suffering in silence and got through to her with the help of Bernie and Rita.
After months of depression and loneliness, Gemma was then finally diagnosed with postnatal depression.
The mum-of-four has been on a gradual road to recovery ever since.
What has Corrie boss Ian MacLeod said about Gemma’s upcoming storyline?
Corrie boss Ian MacLeod recently spoke to Digital Spy about the upcoming storyline: "We wanted to tell a story with some positivity, so ultimately Gemma will come out the other side of this somewhat changed with what she's been through emotionally.
"But with a new level of appreciation and love for her mum, and obviously will go on to become a fantastic mum to those quads in her own inimitable way."
"I'm not saying she won't occasionally feed them turkey twizzlers and Wotsits, and let them watch Nightmare on Elm Street at the age of 11, and all those other things you might expect Gemma to do with her kids.
"But ultimately, at the bottom of it, she's a fantastic mum and it throws off the spectre of her own upbringing.
"I think Gemma thought she'd be a terrible mother because her own mother was a terrible one. But this will ultimately give her the confidence to believe in herself a bit."
