The evil mechanic – who is played by actor Ryan Clayton in the ITV soap – was left terrified after he woke up from his coma to discover he was blind after trauma to his brain.
Viewers saw it as justice for David after he was left living in terror after Josh drugged and raped him.
One said: "Josh has gone blind, karma is a bitch. #Corrie"
A second added: "#Corrie hahahahaha Josh is blind lol KARMA"
The hairdresser – who is played by actor Jack P. Shepherd in the ITV soap – was pushed to breaking point by Josh after he drugged and raped him earlier this year.
But in tonight's episode Josh was prevented from raping another victim when Billy Mayhew warned the man about what Josh was like.
"He was attacked by a man he was with," the police told Billy as they explained that Josh had been beaten up by the man Josh was with.
Billy admitted speaking to the man but explained that he was trying to save him.
He told them: "I warned him that Josh is a rapist. He assaulted a friend of mine and I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't happen again."
The policeman then revealed that the man had confronted Josh and discovered a date rape drug in his pocket, before viciously assaulting him out of revenge.
Later Billy went to tell David, and while Shona and Gail were thrilled, David left the house furious at what Billy had done.
He went straight to the hospital to confront Josh, who was unconscious and fighting for his life after the vicious assault.
David told him: "I've been meaning to have a word with you for some time now and seen as though we're all alone, I thought it might be the best opportunity.
"I'll never forgive you for what you did. I thought you were my friend."
Standing up and beginning to taunt Josh, David added: "I wonder if this is how you felt when I was unconscious?
"You could what you wanted to do to me just like I can do what I want to you. Wonder what will happen if I switch this machine off, or pull these wires out. You couldn't stop me just like I couldn't stop you.
"I'd love to watch you die, and I've fantasised at how I'd kill you. I probably wouldn't have chosen to do it like this, but it'll do. Just to know that you're not here anymore."
He added: "I pity you but at the same time I want you to die."
But just as fans thought David was finally going to get the ultimate revenge on his rapist, David proved he was the better man.
He told him: "I want you to die so much but it's not me who's going to do it. I've got too much to lose, I've got a life to live. And I'm not going to throw that away because of you."
