Coronation Street cast ‘mock Faye Brookes’ for ‘retweeting praise over acting’

Coronation Street viewers raced to social media this week to praise Faye Brookes’ moving performance as Kate Connor, as she tragically lost her partner Rana Habeeb.

Rana was killed off in devastating scenes on Wednesday, on the day of her wedding to Kate.

She passed away after the factory roof collapse, with her beloved Kate by her side leaving viewers in tears.

Both Faye and Rana actress Bhavna Limbachia were praised by viewers and Kana fans, moved by the devastating scenes this week.

But according to The Sun Online , not everyone was as affected by the pair’s acting.

Kate took to social media on Wednesday after the episode, sharing and retweeting dozens of comments from fans complimenting her portrayal of a grief-stricken Kate.

Showing her appreciation, she shared some of the comments on her Instagram story, as well as her Twitter page.

But according to the publication, they suggested some of her cast members “mocked” the decision, with “eyebrows raised”.

They claimed a soap insider told them: “A few eyebrows have been raised among the more level-headed members of the cast, that’s for sure. A few people are scratching their heads about why Faye is milking the limelight so much. In fact, she’s creating her own publicity.

“At the end of the day she was doing her job, like any of the cast. It’s what they do day in day out.

“All these posts she’s putting up from fans about how great she is are just self-glorification. People could understand if she was a kid but she’s 31 and needs to tone down the back slapping. You wouldn’t see a Jack P.Shepherd or a Kym Marsh acting like this."

They went on: “And all the stuff with Gareth in London. It was like she’d won an Oscar or something. She needs to tone it down a bit and remember she’s in Corrie. She’s no Meryl Streep.”

Despite the claims, plenty of viewers and even cast members, including Maria Connor actress Samia Longchambon, did take to social media to “applaud” the scenes, with Kate’s fiancé Gareth Gates also gushing over the episodes.

Mirror online have contacted a representative for Corrie for comment on the story.

Coronation Street continues on Sunday for an hour-long episode at 8pm on ITV.
