Chris Evans preparing to move his breakfast show and team to Virgin Radio from BBC Radio 2 in new year

The legendary star, 52, is moving from BBC Radio 2 with most of his current team including sports reporter Vassos Alerxander, who will continue his long reign.

Vassos has enjoyed a great working relationship with Chris for the last seven years and they will be joined by the brilliant Rachel Horne who will provide regular news bulletins and will expand her role as the show’s travel guru.

Ellie Davis, having worked as Producer for the Radio 2 show since August 2015, will lead the new programme as Executive Producer.

David Brain and Jayne Cheeseman will support Ellie as Producer and Assistant Producer, having already worked on the current breakfast show on Virgin Radio.

Scott Taunton, CEO of Wireless, said: “We are thrilled that Chris is going to be joined by Vassos and Rachel alongside a stellar team of producers; all of whom will make waking up in January much easier!”

On September 3, 2018, Chris announced on his Radio 2 Breakfast Show that he would be leaving the show after eight years.

The broadcaster took over from Sir Terry Wogan in 2010, and regularly attracts nine million listeners – more than any other breakfast show in the UK.

He revealed his final scheduled show would be on Friday, December 21, 2018 – but said he'd like to bow out with a Christmas Eve special.

Chris will be returning to Virgin Radio where he previously hosted the breakfast show between 1997 and 2001.

Virgin Radio is available nationally on DAB digital radio, online and on mobile via the Virgin Radio app.

You can download the app on iTunes and from the Google Play store.
