Chizzy Akudolu set up a Strictly Come Dancing 'losers' WhatsApp group

It’s now tradition for any group of people who’ve bonded on a reality show to stay in contact with a WhatsApp group – even if not everyone sticks around in it for long – and last year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up is no exception.

Simon Rimmer admitted last year that there was “a lot of swearing” in the group after Aston Merrygold’s shock elimination and Mollie King revealed earlier this year that the group was still going strong.

And now Chizzy Akudolu has made her own Strictly WhatsApp group confession, revealing that she actually set up her own group after becoming the first one out of the series.

“I had to come out of the other one,” Chizzy admitted on Sunday Brunch today (August 26).

“Because as much as I loved everybody, I didn’t want to see people posting, ‘Oh I can’t wait to see you guys next week’, and I didn’t want people to feel like they couldn’t post what they wanted.”

“So I came out of that one and then I started one for when people who came out, just so we could have a bit of camaraderie.”

As for the name of the group, Sunday Brunch host Simon Rimmer revealed that it was “called ‘Losers'”, before Chizzy revealed that Aston tweaked it.

“Yeah, it was called that,” she replied. “And then I think Aston changed it to ‘Favourite Losers’.”

Chizzy’s next stint into reality TV will see her battle the Celebrity MasterChef kitchen, and she’ll also be returning to Holby City for a two-month stint later this year.

“I love the show and going back was so like coming home, like putting on your duvet – you just know you are home,” she said on Loose Women earlier this month.

Strictly fever has hit the nation once again following the confirming of this year’s line-up, and taking part in the 2018 series of the dancing competition – and soon to start a WhatsApp group of their very own (we imagine) – are male celebs Lee Ryan, Danny John-Jules, Seann Walsh, Graeme Swann, Joe Sugg, Charles Venn and Dr Ranj Singh, while over on the female side we have Faye Tozer, Stacey Dooley, Kate Silverton, Lauren Steadman, Ashley Roberts, Vick Hope, Susannah Constantine and Katie Piper.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday, September 8, while Sunday Brunch airs on Sundays on Channel 4.
