Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming animated reboot Carmen Sandiego.
“You want the whole story?,” Carmen, voiced by Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez, asks at the beginning of the trailer. Carmen then revisits her days at the V.I.L.E. Training Academy, where she developed her skills to be the globe-trotting international criminal that we know today, But soon we see Carmen turning over a new leaf, sort of. “I realized stealing isn’t a game,” she says. “It does harm people — especially when you’re willing to steal lives.” Now fashioning herself as a thief who only steals from other thieves, she’s joined in her escapades by Player, voiced by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, It).
The character Carmen Sandiego debuted in a 1980s computer game franchise Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? and probably is best known for the Greg Lee-hosted game show that aired on PBS from 1991-95. The animated series ran from 1994 to 1999 on Fox Kids.
The Carmen Sandiego reboot premieres on Netflix Friday, January 18. Check out the trailer above.
