‘Captain Marvel’ De-Aged Samuel L. Jackson to Look Years Younger, and Even He’s Shocked by the End Result

Marvel debuted the first official look at “Captain Marvel” with new photos released by Entertainment Weekly, and Nick Fury is stealing Carol Danvers’ thunder. While fans got a glimpse of Brie Larson suited up in the titular role, they also got to see what Samuel L. Jackson will look like playing fan favorite Nick Fury in the movie’s 1990s setting. Marvel used de-aging technology to have Jackson appear several years younger, and the final result is as shocking as it is uncanny.

Jackson reacted to the first official look at Fury in “Captain Marvel” by taking to social media. “Wow, this Marvel de-aging thing is doper than I thought!” the actor wrote in a caption accompanying the first look photo. Marvel has utilized this kind of technology before (see Michael Douglas in the prologue to “Ant-Man”), but the results look better than ever on Fury in “Captain Marvel.”

“Captain Marvel” is set in the 1990s and follows Carol Danvers as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes after Earth is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds. Jackson has played Fury in countless Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, but “Marvel” is the first time we’ll see the character in his younger days and without his famous eyepatch.

“Captain Marvel,” directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, opens nationwide March 8, 2019.
