‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Reaps Ratings Rewards In Move To NBC

NBC clocked its best comedy demo rating of the season importing Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.2 demo rating; 3.56 million total viewers) from Fox.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine jumped 71% over its year ago season debut in the demo, 82% in total viewers. Thursday’s NBC debut marked the series best ratings of the past two years.

The Andy Samberg starrer benefited from its Titan Games (1.6, 5.70M) lead-in, which retained 94% of previous week’s 8-9 PM demo rating, doubling network’s season average in that slot.

Following Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place (0.9, 2.77M) scored its best stats since early October.

At 10 PM, Law & Order: SVU (0.8, 4.01M) clocked a 14% bump relative to its fall finale, but was no match for CBS’s S.W.A.T (0.9, 5.81M), which matched its season high.

CBS’ The Big Bang Theory (2.4, 13.34M) was, as usual, king of comedy – and of Thursday night – bagging its biggest crowd of season to date and second best in the demo. The network’s Young Sheldon (1.9, 11.95M) and Mom (1.5, 9.43M) followed suit with season highs, after which Fam (1.2, 7.34M) premiered, posting Murphy-Brown-esque fall launch numbers in same slot. The new comedy, starring Nina Dobrev, easily topped Murphy Brown‘s season averages (0.8, 6.1 million).

ABC News’ re-framing of the Monica Lewinsky White House story in the #MeToo era, Truth & Lies: Monica and Bill (0.7, 3.65M) outpaced previous most recent Truth & Lies special on Jonestown (0.6; 3.032M), which aired on a Friday in late September. But it was no match for ABC News’ two January 2018 Truth & Lies specials, including Jan. 4’s Waco (1.1; 5.004M) and Jan. 11’s The Tonya Harding Story (1.4, 6.646M).

Fox’s Gotham (0.7, 2.43M) equaled its premiere demo performance of the previous week, while The Orville (0.7, 3.05M) climbed 1/10th.

CBS (1.5, 9.57M) won the night in both metrics, followed by NBC (1.1, 4.01M), ABC (0.7, 3.08M), Fox (0.7, 2.74M, which tied ABC in the demo), and CW (0.2, 860K) with repeat of Supernatural (0.2, 780K) and a special Roswell: Mysteries Decoded (0.2, 940K).
