Brits 2019 — Dele Alli pulled out of ceremony after cracking onto Megan Barton Hanson as host Jack Whitehall lets rip on Daniel Sturridge

But he had a decent excuse if it was caused by a lack of time to prepare — he only found out on the day that he was required.

That’s because England and Spurs star Dele Alli pulled out the morning of the awards leaving organisers a touch panicked.

It also meant that host Jack Whitehall had to tear up swathes of his script and rewrite them with just hours to rehearse.

Dele pulling out came just hours after The Sun revealed how he had split from long-term girlfriend Ruby Mae, before cracking onto Love Island’s Megan Barton Hanson within weeks of doing so.

A show source said: “Dele was meant to get up with Paloma for the first award that George Ezra won.

“But clearly something rattled him on the day and he told bosses he couldn’t do it after all.

“Jack had to rewrite a load of gags because he ripped into Dele over playing for Spurs and being injured. Thankfully Daniel, being a bit injury-prone himself, was something of an easy target too.”

Jack introduced Daniel by calling him a “Premier League runner-up in waiting” then said he had picked up a “knock” shaking winner George’s hand.

As a blue-nosed Everton fan, they were my favourite gags of the night…
