Britain’s Got Talent has been a big hit with audiences since it burst onto our screens back in 2007.

Simon Cowell has been a regular judge on the show since it first began and he has welcomed a whole host of pals to help him along the way, including Amanda Holden, David Hasselhoff, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon, Piers Morgan and Michael McIntyre.

However, throughout the show’s decade-and-a-half run, there have been a few moments that have rocked the boat and caused a stir between the judges and auditionees.

Read on to check out some of BGT’s most awkward moments, from on-air arguments to performance failures.

Simon vs David

It’s often a joke that Simon Cowell and David Walliams have a jokey love-hate relationship, but back in 2019 tensions rose a little too high between the judging pair.

After a performance from magic act As Angels Inc, fellow judges Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden said they felt “empowered” by the women, but Simon admitted he preferred their audition piece.

The women asked viewers to vote for them as they embody “confidence,” and David took the opportunity to quip at Simon: “Get with the programme, granddad. This is feminism in 2019.”

Simon then shouted at David: “I’m not the one who’s voting, smart a***. Ok?”

Viewers at home rushed to Twitter to discuss the altercation and one said that the exchange was “so awkward they couldn’t even watch”.

Mind-reading Mishap

Magic act DNA had possibly the biggest blunder a magician could make during one of their performances.

One half of the duo Darren asked David whether he knew the page number of the book he had flicked through, which David confirmed he didn’t.

Darren wrote down a number on a board, but to his dismay David told him that he had landed on page 31.

Embarrassingly, Darren admitted he had written down 81 and let the audience know he “was going to change it”.

However, fans didn’t let him get away with it that easily and one wrote on Twitter that their act was “too complicated, confusing and that the numbers didn’t add up”.

Programming Problems

BGT fans were fuming when a technical glitch prevented them from watching their favourite talent show.

As viewers settled in for a night in front of the telly, ITV Hub played a repeat episode of Judge Rinder before swiftly moving on to Dickinson’s Real Deal.

The glitch left fans in an uproar which they quickly took to Twitter.

One viewer said that the channel was “having a mare” and that they would “riot” if it wasn’t sorted before Coronation Street, while another said that had “given up” on the streaming service.

Matt Mistake

Britain’s Got Talent slipped up big time in 2019 when they accidentally displayed the wrong finalist on the screen during a live show.

After the first two finalists Kojo Anim and Colin Thackery were announced, a painfully awkward moment happened when the ITV show mixed up the next lucky contestant.

Instead of comedian Siobhan Phillips, magician Matt Stirling appeared instead.

Simon Storms Off

During a ventriloquist act in 2019, Simon was convinced to come on stage and join in the fun by performer Jimmy Tamley.

Clearly annoyed by the fiasco, Simon decided to be a good sport and took to the stage with fellow judge David Walliams.

However, after he put on a doll mask and was instructed on what to do, the last straw for the music mogul came when he was asked to do the can-can.

Cowell suddenly walked off stage as he'd had enough and both audience and viewers could sense the obviously awkward atmosphere in the room.
