Britain’s Got Talent 2019: ‘A relief’ David Walliams drops bombshell over show shake-up

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions will be the first series Stephen Mulhern isn’t joining the regular stars in over 10 years on the ITV programme.

Judge David Walliams has spoken out about the show’s unexpected change now, but instead of showing his upset, he gave a very blunt opinion on his co-star stepping away.

Joking about the length of Stephen’s companion show and all the funny segments that take place, David joked: “It’s a relief.”

Laughing, the star went on to tease: “Because when we do the live BGT shows we are sat for two and a half hours.

“And then just as you think it’s over, in he walks.

“It’s another half-hour of talking to him!”

Bringing the joking to an end, the children’s books’ author turned serious about his long time friend and co-star.

David went on to say Stephen’s own brand of comedy has been sorely missed around the studio.

“I miss him backstage,” he said. “Because he’s hilarious and puts you in a happy mood.”

Will Stephen be back for next year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent?

Discussing the latest series and how bosses filled the gap without the extra presenter, David revealed Simon Cowell has done something very unusual.

The judge explained his co-star has taken to bringing in his pets, who have all been making a mess on the set.

The Champions series brings back contestants from the past for a new all-stars head-to-head.

Simon has even doubled the prize money to £100,000 for the lucky winner, according to fellow judge Amanda Holden.

Returning contestants include Ashleigh & Sully, Collabro and 2019 winner Colin Thackery will also be making an appearance.

The veteran will crown the show’s ultimate winner at the end of the show.

Yesterday on This Morning, Amanda spilled the beans on things behind the scenes on the hit show.

She revealed that while fans might think the various spats and slanging matches between the judges are all unplanned, the reality is quite different.

“Every night before we go out Simon Cowell says, ‘I want bad behaviour from you,” Amanda revealed, as Alesha Dixon joked the music mogul is “the worst”.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions airs Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
