Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan confirms the movie is finally happening five years after series ended

The adaptation comes five years after the show ended in 2013 – after five seasons and 62 episodes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vince is working on a two-hour movie.

However, it's not yet known if the film will be released in cinemas, or if it'll be made for television.

A source said: "Vince will pen the script, executive produce and possibly direct.

"Breaking Bad and prequel series Better Call Saul exec producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein are also said to be attached to the film project."

The movie will follow the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom, and production is expected to begin this month in New Mexico.

In the award-wining American crime drama, chemistry teacher Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, starts making Crystal Meth after being diagnosed with lung cancer to secure his family’s financial future.

He and former student Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul, drive out to the desert to cook the drug in a camper van.

Over five series, Walt transforms into criminal mastermind Heisenberg and comes up against serious underworld figures.

Actor Bryan said: “This show is universal.

"It is the way human beings act and think and feel.

“We are sometimes good, we are sometimes bad.

“The way that TV characters have been depicted in the past has been too cookie cutter, too black and white — and nobody lives that way.”
