Big Brother winner Cameron Cole dedicates victory to all LGBTQ+ people who've struggled coming out

Big Brother winner Cameron Cole has paid tribute in an exclusive Digital Spy interview to young members of the LGBTQ+ community who come out “every day” by dedicating his victory to them.

The 19-year-old blogger from Norwich was crowned as the last-ever winner of Big Brother in the Channel 5 era on Monday night (November 5), beating out Akeem Griffiths in the head-to-head voting.

Digital Spy spoke with Cameron immediately after the final edition of Bit on the Side, and asked him to reflect on the huge support he received on finale night and for his courageous choice to come out in front of the nation.

“It means the world,” Cameron told us. “It makes the whole four years of trying to work and figure things out kinda worth it, the fact that I’ve finally been able to help some other people through, if I have done, through that themselves. It’s amazing.

“Honestly, I’m privileged to have been able to do it. I didn’t plan to do it, but it’s an incredible feeling to know that I helped people out. It’s made everything worth it. I hope that it has inspired people as much as possible. Lots of people come out every day and they don’t do it on national television.

“They don’t get the reception that I’ve got, but they all deserve it because it’s an incredible thing and me winning is as much for them as it was for me. It’s an incredible honour and privilege to have the support that I have. I’ll never be able to stress how grateful I am for it.”

As they’ve come out of the house, fellow LGBTQ+ housemates Tomasz and Brooke have shared how inspired they were by Cameron — and now it’s his chance to thank his housemates for their support.

“[Their support] was amazing, absolutely amazing,” Cameron said. “The housemates are some of the most incredible people I’ve ever met. It was such an amazing bunch.

“They were so incredibly supportive. I never… [would] do what I did if it wouldn’t have been for the fact that I love them all so, so much.

“I’ve said before, which is the biggest compliment I could ever give them, if I could share that with them, something I’ve shared with a handful of people, and I could share that with them, they’re absolutely incredible people. I love them to bits. They’re absolutely extraordinary, and they’re as much a part of it as I was.”

Big Brother aired for the last time on Monday night on Channel 5.
