Big Bang Theory star says "no-one has any interest" in another spin-off once show ends

The Big Bang Theory is ending but, despite its popularity, don’t expect another spin-off.

Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard on the CBS sitcom, quashed any talk of the show continuing in the form of an offshoot series with any of the current cast (in addition to prequel series Young Sheldon), explaining that there is no discussion to be had if Jim Parsons isn’t continuing as Sheldon.

“Oh, absolutely not,” the actor said (via news.com.au). “The show could not continue without Jim.”

Galecki added that although Roseanne did continue on without Roseanne Barr in The Conners, the situation with The Big Bang Theory is not comparable.

“They are very different situations,” he said. “But I can tell you that no-one has any interest [in a spin-off].”

Co-star Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny, also said that she initially struggled to come to terms with the show coming to an end.

“I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed and could not form words,” she shared. “We all did. The entire cast were all together and everyone cried for about 30 straight minutes. We all hugged. It was kind of crazy.”

Galecki added: “I’m getting emotional now talking about it.

“I don’t think anyone was in disagreement about [the show ending], but that doesn’t mean that it was an easy conversation. There were a lot of tears and a lot of hugs. But even if we took the show to season 35, that conversation is inevitable and still would have been just as difficult and emotional.”

The Big Bang Theory plays on CBS in the US and E4 in the UK.
