BBC’s The Greatest Dancer branded a ‘flop’ for one surprising reason

The Greatest Dancer, the BBC’s newest panel talent show, has been called a "flop" for one surprising reason.

The show saw Cheryl, Oti Mabuse and Matthew Morrison choose their favourite performers from dancing hopefuls, all vying for the show’s crown and the prize money of £50,000.

But it has been reported that more than half a million viewers switched off the show for one reason as they fought and, it would seem, lost the viewings war again ITV’s The Voice.

There was one reason why fans were turning over, but can you guess what?

It turns out, a show focusing on dancing and running for 70 minutes, only featured around 14 minutes of actual dancing.

One fan tweeted: "15 minutes into the programme and there’s been approximately one minute of dancing. This is so stupid."

Another said: "Can we just get to the dancing part. #GreatestDancer"

A source told The Sun : "Producers were quietly confident about The Greatest Dancer but this has been quite a big blow.

“They thought people would enjoy the back stories but many picked up on the lack of actual dancing instead.”

While the show only pulled in about 4.9million at the start, it lost a load more and ended with around 4.36million.

However, The Voice pulled in 5.5million overall.

Another fan tweeted: "Is this a dance contest or a chat show with a receptionist? Awful. More dancing, less chat.”

Cheryl was left pretty shocked by a half-naked dancer, who was the first to perform, but this was not until nine minutes into the show.

And while many fans were not sure of the lack of dancing, others focused on the format, as they were a little confused by the receptionist format like in Celebs Go Dating and The Big Audition.

MirrorOnline has contacted the BBC for comment.

The Greatest Dancer airs at 8.10pm on Saturday on BBC1.
