The former EastEnders star, 50, had to leave the BBC show at the quarter-final stage on Saturday due to a rib injury, something both he and Katya were heartbroken by.

Nigel, 50, explained to shocked viewers during the broadcast that he had an accident while jumping from a rostrum, which led to a trip to A&E. With no other option, Nigel and Katya had to withdraw from the series.

Now, Katya has spoken about her disappointment at the early exit and sent a message to Nigel as she's upported by her friends and followers.

Taking to Instagram the dancing pro, 34, shared a series of photos of herself and Nigel, which she captioned: "And here we are. [heartbroken emoji] What an abrupt ending. But when the dust has settled , I know only beautiful memories will remain in my heart. [heart emoji]

"When we turned up every day and had our coffees, when we would have discussions about the story of our dance and our characters, every time you made me laugh, every time you gave me a reassuring hug.

"When I would get excited about your toilet breaks because you always belted out some amazing tunes whilst doing your business [laughing emoji] Giving the first pre-view of our dances to your family, and see their faces light up.

"The support of your friends and countless messages of love and encouragement that we received. The list can go on. And then the excitement of doing the dance on set and see it come alive on Fridays.

"Eventually walking out on to the dance floor together every Saturday, holding hands, feeling the magic in the air [sparkling emoji]"

She finished: "I am so grateful this partnership happened. So proud of you and privileged to spend time with such an enormously talented human . @themeditatingactor #WeAreTheSh*t. AND THE BIGGEST APPRECIATION FOR YOUR LOVE TO US."

Fans rushed to say that the pair will be missed, as one wrote: "This was one of my favourite partnerships to watch in the whole history of Strictly!! I loved watching your dances every week and the joy you both brought to everyone in the studio and at home."

"You were amazing and produced incredible routines. I am gutted we won’t see you in the final (I have no doubt you would have made it). Thank you for the quality entertainment," added another.

And a third penned: "I’m going to miss you both so much. You were my definite faves!"
