Barbra Streisand Performs Cardi B with James Corden and Terrifies Him on 'Carpool Karaoke'

The legendary singer explains how Donald Trump inspired her new album, “Walls,” and why she had to call Apple’s Tim Cook about Siri.

The latest "Carpool Karaoke" saw James Corden picked up by Barbra Streisand where they talked about fame, fear, Cardi B and the inspiration for her new album, "Walls."

In a twist on the usual format, Streisand picked up Corden in her car and it was she who drove through the whole segment. And yet, one of the first things she admitted was that she may not be the world’s best driver.

Apparently, the last time she went in to renew her driver’s license, "I had to do the written exam," she told him.

"This is a huge mistake."

Not only did Streisand fail the test three times, she admitted that she was once so distracted she drove onto the off-ramp of a highway, into oncoming traffic.

"If this is how I go out, I’ll take it. It’s a good way to go out," Corden laughed. "How did he die? Barbra Streisand.
At the hands of Barbra Streisand."

Streisand lived up to her "Funny Girl" pedigree, bringing plenty of laughs to the segment, including when she stopped him right at the top of it. He asked, as he always does, if she minded them turning on the radio to listen to some music.

"Let me just say this. I’ve just finished making an album and I don’t usually put the radio on to hear music," Streisand said with a serious look on her face. "Do you really have to hear music." His expression was priceless.

Stresiand did confirm that it was Tiffany Haddish who explained to her who Cardi B was, as Haddish had previously said, but it was James Corden who introduced her to Cardi’s music. He even got her to sing a bit of it along with her. And her reaction to the lyrics was just as priceless!

At another point, Corden asked her about "the moment where [she] didn’t perform for 27 years."

"Yeah, a moment," she laughed. "It’s a long moment."

According to the legendary singer, it’s not so much about stage fright as just general nerves for her. "I don’t get nervous nervous, but I don’t enjoy it. I get scared," she admitted. "I just don’t want to disappoint people."

So what does she say to get herself ready to go out there. "Let go and let God."

Perhaps the funniest story of the whole ride, though, was when Corden ever asked her if she has self-awareness about her legendary status as the Barbra Streisand. She insisted that she never thinks of herself that way.

"Didn’t you call Tim Cook to get him to change how Siri says your name on an iPhone?" he asked her, to which she quickly snapped, "That’s different."

The politically-motivated artist explained that it was the current state of affairs in the United States that inspired her latest album, "Walls," before she and Corden belted a powerful rendition of the album’s track, "Don’t Lie to Me."

We’ve got to admit, no matter how you feel about Donald Trump and his administration, getting new Barbra Streisand music out of it is a pretty good deal. Both she and the song sounded fantastic!

Fans can check out the whole album on Friday, November 2, after enjoying this sneak preview in the video above.
