Avengers: Endgame brought the ultimate battle against Thanos (played by Josh Brolin) to a conclusion as the penultimate movie of Marvel’s Phase 3. The Avengers worked together to collect all the Infinity Stones in order to prevent the Titan from eliminating 50 per cent of the universe’s population. While Thanos in the present moment was killed by an angry Thor (Chris Hemsworth) near the beginning of the film, the gang were still faced with the task of going up against a past version of Thanos later on, after travelling back in time in order to fetch all the Stones.
In the end, it’s Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) who sacrifices himself in order to kill Thanos, placing the Stones in his own version of the Infinity Gauntlet and snapping his fingers.
In that moment, the villain sighs, sitting down heavily and accepting his defeat.
As Reddit user IamtheWil pointed out, this exact action was predicted in Avengers: Infinity War.
In the predecessor to Endgame, Thanos made a speech to Thor and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after killing their fellow Asgardians.

“I know what it’s like to lose, to feel so desperately that you’re right but to fail none the less,” he said.
“It’s frightening — turns the legs to jelly.”
So, when the time finally comes for his mission to snap half of all beings out of existence, when he finally loses the fight, Thanos’ legs turn to jelly as he’s confronted with failure while still believing he’s in the right.
The first thing he does when he realises he’s lost is to sit down before he and his army turn to dust.
Elsewhere, a recent poll conducted by Express.co.uk found Endgame was fans favourite Marvel movie so far.
Of all 23 films which have been made over the past 10 years, the dramatic finale received 23 per cent of the the votes.
Some way down in joint second place came Iron Man and Infinity War on 11 per cent.
Meanwhile, a handful of the Marvel films got zero per cent of the votes for the best one to date: The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Though the Avengers finally defeated Thanos in Endgame, a deleted scene has proved there is still a possibility the villain could return in Phase 4.
The scene, which can be seen in the version of the film available to stream on Disney+, shows a conversation between Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton).
In the clip, the Sorcerer Supreme reveals Thanos’ Snap didn’t kill anybody but actually willed them out of existence.
Thus, those who have been dusted can be brought back.
The specificity of this explains why Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Iron Man can’t be brought back — because they died for real.
However, Thanos wasn’t actually killed but, in fact, snapped out of existence by Iron Man.
With this in mind, it could be possible for Thanos to be resurrected.
For now, though, the Mad Titan is no more and Marvel are ushering in a new age of heroes and villains.
