Christina Anstead and Tarek El Moussa used to be the couple on HGTV. In their show, Flip or Flop, they purchased homes, renovated them on a timeline, and then put them up for sale. Most of the time they made their money back, other times houses sat on the market for months.
One of the biggest draws for the show was the relationship status of the talented pair. Seeing a married couple take on real estate was a big deal for many; being able to see their kids make an appearance was a bonus! Just look at the success of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Fixer Upper. So when the seemingly perfect couple’s marriage fell apart, fans were devastated.

Trouble was already brewing in paradise long before the iconic HGTV couple called it quits. The pair rocked a ten-year marriage before throwing their vows out the window. Despite the longevity, it was riddled with problems. First El Moussa caught thyroid cancer which basically incapacitated him. Even though he managed to beat the disease, the stress took a pretty big toll on their marriage. Handling possibly fatal health issues while tackling an unforgiving filming schedule would be tough on any couple.
Not too long after El Moussa beat his personal demon, Anstead stood face to face with hers: a miscarriage. All the while the couple continued to film the show, adding more and more strain to their bond. As if that wasn’t enough, El Moussa ended up suffering a back injury. Ultimately all the hiccups became too much for Anstead and El Moussa and they decided to bid their fairytale romance adieu.

Anstead and El Moussa have decided to continue filming Flip or Flop. That being said, there’s no way they don’t talk — but that’s strictly business. What about in their personal lives? They are co-parenting their adorable children so of course, they are on speaking terms. But, there are plenty of couples who keep their talks to a minimum, kids or no kids.
“Christina and I are in a really good place right now,” the 37-year-old El Moussa said in a statement. “We’ve worked hard to keep our business strong, but our kids will always be our #1 priority. It’s important they know we respect each other and that we only want the best for them.” – Tarek El Moussa

As it turns out, the ex-couple actually does more than the bare basics when it comes to their convos! When Anstead found out she was pregnant with her first child with her new hubby, she made it a point to keep her ex in the loop. The mother-to-be waited until she knew the baby was in the third trimester before making the call. Once she clued him in, she let their kids (and Ant’s kids) know what was up. This speaks volumes about the current status of their relationship.
“I feel like Tarek and I have started a brand-new chapter,” said Anstead, who is expecting her first child with new husband Ant Anstead. “We may not always agree on kitchen backsplashes or floor plans, but we’re always on the same page when it comes to our kids. We’ve learned to put our differences aside, so we can give Taylor and Brayden the best and happiest life possible.”
While the estranged pair may never get back together, it’s clear they’ve both found closure with their divorce and are ready for the next chapter of their lives.
