Lancashire couple Donna and Terry enlisted Laura Hamilton’s help on A Place in the Sun as the jewellery business owners looked for their dream holiday home in Manilva on the Costa del Sol. However, the Channel 4 presenter grew frustrated with the couple when she learnt they couldn’t agree on where they wanted to live.

For the past 15 years, Donna and Terry have been focussing on their jewellery business.

The couple explained they felt now was the perfect time to relocate to Spain for part of the year.

Laura had a budget of £135,000 to work with and showed them five possible contenders.

However, it soon became clear during the search that Donna and Terry wanted very different things.

Terry fell in love with the fourth offering, a two-bedroom townhouse in Hacienda Guadalupe.

But, Donna was more inclined to put an offer in on the final property Laura showed them.

She loved the design of a two-bedroom apartment with access to a pool.

Reflecting on the property search, Laura asked: “What has it made you think going forward?

“Are you going to go for a house, are you going to go for an apartment, are you going to up your budget? What’s the plan?”

“I personally would like to up our budget,” Terry replied.

“We do have a property in England that’s waiting to be sold so we could up the budget substantially. I think that’s the way we should go.”

“Anyone would want a house over an apartment really so I understand Terry’s thought process,” Donna added.

“If it’s a house I want it to be one I’m going to live in for a long time so it’s got to be the right one and that’s going to take a bit more money.”

“Well that’s good,” Laura interjected. “At least it’s made you realise that it is a house that you want going forward.

“You do need to up your budget and by the sounds of things you have fallen in love with the area and you know the area is right.”

Donna agreed: “Absolutely beautiful beaches, lots of places to go to, it’s a gorgeous place.”

“All I’d say to you is please don’t hang around,” Laura warned.

“Don’t wait too long because everything is going to be unaffordable because you know it and that dream will become further and further away from reality. I hope you’ve had a good time albeit a bit stressful.”

Terry replied: “No we’ve had a great time we’ve really loved the experience.”

“Good luck but don’t wait too long,” Laura quipped and Donna said: “No, definitely not.”

A Place in the Sun airs on Channel 4 on weekdays at 3pm.
