'A Million Little Things' Given an Official Season 3 Production Start Date

ABC’s A Million Little Things Season 3 has been given the go-ahead to begin shooting. Here’s what we know so far about when the cast and crew will return to set and how production will change as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Production protocols will incorporate stricter health and safety precautions

The TV industry has been on ice in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But things are slowly heating back up with health and safety protocols in place. Deadline reports that several U.S. studios have reached an agreement with the British Columbia production unions. That is good news for A Million Little Things, which shoots in Vancouver, British Columbia.

According to Deadline, the governing bodies and production crews will incorporate new health and safety practices. Keeping the emphasis on wellness, productions will operate with smaller crews on set, comply with COVID-19 testing requirements for cast and crew members, and enforce a two-week self-quarantine period for those traveling from the United States to British Columbia.

Now that production is ramping back up in Vancouver, A Million Little Things will be one of the series to begin shooting in late summer 2020. And to the delight of anxious fans, the show has an official start date for production “We start shooting August 25th. No official air dates yet,” tweeted showrunner DJ Nash.

Nash also revealed that the script for the season 3 premiere is complete. “[Michelle Leibel] and I finished writing the premiere today,” Nash wrote on Twitter, “So Eddie’s fate has been determined. I promise you the episode will make you cry.” That tweet was posted in early July, meaning that A Million Little Things should be able to hit the ground running, assuming that all on-set protocols are in place.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed the way that production crews and actors work. This unprecedented phase may also affect the way stories play out on television.

It remains to be seen how A Million Little Things characters will address the worldwide outbreak or other experiences that define the era, including the Black Lives Matter movement and the 2020 presidential election. But Nash’s commitment to authenticity is unquestionable.

He recently teased on Twitter that current events will likely show up in A Million Little Things Season 3. “Our show works very hard to be authentic,” Nash tweeted. “It seems hard to do that and not address everything going on in the world right now.”

Fans can catch up on the show on streaming platforms
