Kardashian and Thompson’s relationship was first revealed to the public in Sept. 2016. At the time, the athlete was expecting his first child with Jordan Craig, who was still pregnant with the couple’s baby (born that December) when Thompson met Kardashian. Neither has confirmed if he met Kardashian while still in a relationship with Craig.
A source confirmed that Kardashian and Thompson were casually dating to PEOPLE that month. “It’s unclear for now if it’s going to turn [into] anything super serious, but for now they’re having a good time together,” the source added.
It didn’t take long until casually dating became something more serious. “Khloé has been spending a lot of time in Cleveland with Tristan,” a source told PEOPLE. “She’s very supportive of him, and they are getting serious. They really dig each other a lot, and she’s planning to spend more and more time out there with him.” It showed: they celebrated Labor Day together in Mexico, hung out with Kardashian’s mom Kris Jenner, and packed on the PDA at a Drake concert in Los Angeles. By the end of the month, they made things Instagram official.
They spent the holidays together in 2016, with Kardashian flying out to Cleveland for Thanksgiving and packing on plenty of PDA on New Year’s Eve, which Kardashian documented on Instagram.
In January, Kardashian confirmed the couple had exchanged I love you’s. “I am [in love],” she told James Corden. “I’m very happy. It’s going good. We use the L word!”
When it’s serious in the Kardashian family, it’s only a matter of time before a significant other makes an appearance on the show that launched the family to fame. Thompson appeared on the season 13 premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, where he attended a Kanye West concert with the rest of the crew.
Kardashian was definitely not hiding how serious she is about Thompson: In an interview with ES magazine, she said that she was ready to marry him if he asked, and had full faith in him as a dad. “He [already] is a father, and I know for a fact that he would be an impeccable father,” she said.
Though Thompson already spent ample time at Kardashian’s Calabasas home, the pair started house-hunting for a place together in July, hoping to find something closer to downtown Los Angeles. Kardashian was filled with joy at the prospect: “[She’s] just the happiest,” a source told PEOPLE. “She loves spending every day with Tristan.”
First comes house, then comes baby? PEOPLE confirmed in September that Kardashian and Thompson were expecting their first child together. “Yes, Khloe and Tristan are expecting and they are absolutely thrilled,” the source says. “This is something Khloe has wanted for years and years and yet it’s more than that: she didn’t want it unless she was in the right relationship for it.”
Kardashian and Thompson took their time announcing the pregnancy to the world, waiting until December to confirm the news themselves. “My greatest dream realized,” Kardashian wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Thompson cradling her bump. “We are having a baby! I still at times can’t believe that our love created life!”
They spent Valentine’s Day in true Kardashian form: with the rest of the family. “We’re both not very needy when it comes to this kind of stuff, so we’re just going to go to my mom’s and have a couples’ dinner with my family,” Kardashian wrote in a post on her app and website. “Cute, right? She’s having a chef cook for us, which will be a fun little luxury.”
Kardashian revealed that she and Thompson are expecting a daughter in March. “I am now so excited my daughter will have forever best friends with Chicago and Stormi!!” she wrote on Twitter. “God is great!!! Thank you Lord for our princess.”
With just days to go before Kardashian gives birth, Thompson was seen speaking closely to a girl at a bar in Manhattan. Another video saw that same girl entering a hotel with Thompson at 5 a.m., prompting allegations that Thompson was cheating on Kardashian. “Tristan has been consistently cheating on Khloé,” a source told PEOPLE. “He’s a serial cheater. And there will be more women to come out of the woodwork.”
She’s here! The reality star welcomed her first child, a baby girl named True, with boyfriend Tristan Thompson on April 12, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE, a few days after cheating allegations against Thompson surfaced.
“Khloé labored with [mom Kris Jenner] yesterday at the hospital. Tristan was there for the birth,” a Keeping Up with the Kardashians insider told PEOPLE. “He has practice today, but will spend as much time at the hospital as possible.”
“Everyone is focused on what’s best for their baby girl,” the source added. “Khloé is being the bigger person and letting Tristan bond with their baby.”
The couple relocated to Los Angeles and spent the summer looking happier than ever as they rebuilt their relationship. “She is committed to keeping her family together,” a source told PEOPLE. “And Tristan has shown that he is committed to Khloé, so Khloé will make it work.”
As fall began, though, Thompson moved back to Cleveland for his NBA season, while Kardashian and True stayed behind in Los Angeles. Sources told PEOPLE that their relationship was “up in the air,” though they reunited to spend Halloween together as a family.
As the Keeping Up with the Kardashians episodes documenting Thompson’s cheating scandal and True birth air, old wounds have been reopened. While watching the show, Kardashian tweeted that her boyfriend is “lucky” she was nine months pregnant when she found out about his indiscretions. Seven months after Thompson broke her heart, the new mom was having a “really tough” time and still had “a lot of hurt and anger,” a source told PEOPLE.
