90 Day Fiancé couple Ash Naeck and Avery Warner might be hitting a rough patch afterNaeck’s relationship coaching seminar. The seminar did not go well for Naeck, and Warner, as well as fans, have pointed out that the ideas Naeck put forward are outdated and sexist. To make matters worse, a Redditor pointed out that the content of Naeck’s seminar is suspiciously familiar to a seminar given by Mike Gungor, a self-proclaimed marriage expert.
Avery Warner says there was tension in the room
According to Ash Naeck’s 90 Day Fiancé love, Avery Warner, the seminar did not go over well with the attendees. Naeck put forth severeal ideas that are stereotypical and outdated when it comes to the differences between men, women, and how they think, as well as their brains.
Warner says that it was tense and uncomfortable. On Instagram, a fan asked her, “Were there really a lot of awkward silences during the seminar? Or was it all edited in?”
Warner replied to the question with, “The tension in the room was intense, I won’t lie. But I also feel Ash was out of his comfort zone and things didn’t go as planned.”
During the episode, Warner told producers, “It’s only been a few minutes into the seminar and I can feel the room getting tense. It was turning into a subject of like, men are this, and women are this. Which to me, sounds sexist. And I have never gotten that vibe from him previous to this seminar.”
Ash Naeck’s seminar is similar to Mark Gungor’s
To make matters worse, a fan of 90 Day Fiancé on Reddit posted a link to a seminar by “marriage expert” Mark Gungor that seemed to be almost the same content. Gungor’s seminar is much older than Ash Naeck’s, and had many fans of the show wondering if he simply lifted Gungor’s ideas.
For example, Naeck’s starting point had to do with the difference between male brains and female brains. In a misguided train of thought, Naeck claimed, “Women don’t really understand the way men work, in their brains. If you think of the brain of a man, there’s boxes in his brain. And each box represents something. Now your brain is interlinked so when you’re thinking you’re thinking of many things at a time. Everything is going crazy in your brain. And for a man, it’s completely different.”
Naeck added, “A woman, when it’s something small, it tends to get really big. And for men, our brain is working very different. That’s why with men there’s a box in their brain that we call the nothing box. And we love to be in the nothing box. Fishing, that’s why we can fish for such a long time, sometimes five or six hours. But [women] want to get in that nothing box and try to like, start decorating.”
In Gungor’s equally misguided seminar, he claims, “We’re gonna start discussing men’s brains, women’s brains, and how they’re very different from each other. … Now men’s brains are very unique, men’s brains are made up of little boxes. And we have a box for everything. … And the boxes do not touch each other.”
Gungor adds, “Now women’s brains are very different from men’s brains. Women’s brains are made up of a big ball of wire and everything is connected to everything. … Now men, we have a box in a brain that women are not aware of. This particular box has nothing in it. In fact we call it the nothing box. And of all the boxes a man has in his brain, the nothing box is our favorite box. If a man has a chance, he’ll go his nothing box every time.” Gungor laters mentions fishing, just as Naeck did.
‘90 Day Fiancé’ fans react to Ash Naeck’s seminar, similarities
90 Day Fiancé fans seemed equally unimpressed with Ash Naeck’s seminar and Gungor’s, as well as with Naeck’s seeming lack of originality.
One Redditor asked of Gungor’s presentation, “Is it just me or is this explanation of men and women’s brains completely sexist, and the entire church congregation is applauding him and laughing?”
A YouTube user commented on Gungor’s video, “Who else is here [because] they saw Ash’s regurgitated version of this on 90 Day Fiancé?”
“Ash should be getting sued for plagiarism. He truly isn’t that smart, to go on TV and provide evidence to those he stole from,” wrote one Redditor.
Another added, “I love that this video clearly shows an audience dressed from the 90s or early 2000s. Yet, Ash thinks this is relevant. Wowza. I HOPE Avery finds this.”
