7 vintage Made in Chelsea storylines you've probably forgotten about

Made in Chelsea is currently back on our screens – and in its seventh(!) year, no less.

Whilst we may have all come to terms with the fact that it’s a “constructed” reality show, fans still pine after the glory days of seasons gone by. So we thought we’d take a look back at some of the best storylines you might’ve forgotten… yeah boi!

1. When Spencer Matthews was hung up on Caggie Dunlop

The ‘will they, won’t they?’ storyline dragged on for what felt like years, but let’s take you back to series one (in fact, episode one) of the Chelsea-born reality show.

Spencer and Caggie were making doe eyes at one another, but there was the slight snag of him having a girlfriend. (Of course, we’d later come to learn that this was standard Spenny behaviour, but it definitely hooked in viewers the first time around.)

Dating model and dancer Funda Önal, Spencer still pursued his close friend Caggs – even asking her out to dinner and dropping hints that he might like to be her boyfriend.

Keeping each lady in his life in the dark, Caggie didn’t realise just how serious the relationship was until she saw them together, and Funda only clocked that there might be a little more to the Spencer/Caggie friendship when she noticed their flirty interactions.

In an attempt to resolve the situation, Spencer’s best friend Hugo set Caggie up with his pal CJ (are you keeping up?) but this only served to make Spenny jealous. The lads hashed it out in a testosterone-fuelled round of clay pigeon shooting (it must be an SW3 thing), which only made things worse for Funda.

In the middle of all this drama, Spencer and Caggie found themselves on a trip to Cannes, where Spencer dropped the bombshell that he’d decided to break up with Funda (because she’d called him out for his inappropriate behaviour).

When Caggs didn’t suddenly leap into his arms, Spencer got all offended and the whole mess was only resolved when Caggie decided to up and move to America. Of course, a mad dash to the airport ensued, but Spencer failed to catch her.

But this was all just a taster of what was to come…

2. When Hugo cheated on Millie with best friend Rosie

Now that these two are happily married, it might have slipped your mind that they didn’t exactly have the smoothest of starts on the E4 show.

To the backdrop of the Caggie/Spencer/Funda dramz that occupied series one, Hugo was having some girl troubles of his very own. Deciding that he actually might’ve started to fall for one of his close friends Rosie, her best friend Millie won a date with him. As you do.

Hugo and Millie ended up smooching a few times (leaving Rosie all jealous) before becoming an official couple. But cheating rumours plagued their relationship in series two…

After calling him out on what she’d heard, Millie finished their romance. Yet more rumours then surfaced, this time from Caggie (oh yeah, her big move to NYC didn’t last long), resulting in Millie doing some country-hopping of her own and ending up in Paris.

It then came to light that Millie may have done the dirty on Hugo first, and when she was back in London there was a big ol’ confrontation between the former lovers.

This whole saga came to a dramatic climax in the season two finale episode; Millie found out that Hugo had actually cheated with her best friend Rosie back when they were together, and she outed them both at a party. *toasts* Here’s to friendship!

3. When Louise dated Jamie

Trying desperately to fight the lure of Chelsea bad boy Spencer, Louise ended up taking refuge in the arms of Jamie. Frying pan, meet fire…?

After revealing her plans to move back to Edinburgh for her studies, the pair’s romance hit a slight speed bump. Jamie should have put the final nail in this coffin when he spent the night with Gabriella, but that didn’t stop his pining for Louise dragging on into series three.

Despite the fact that he was trying to date someone else (we’re looking at you, Kimberly) Spencer now decided that he wanted to have Louise too, turning the whole thing into a bit of an ugly love triangle.

In a last ditch attempt to win her affection, Jamie surprised Louise in Edinburgh and confessed his love for her, but she simply told him that she’d been hearing from Spencer again. Ouch.

Jamie finally came to the dawning realisation that he was being manipulated by his best friend. Spencer kept playing with both of their emotions, making Louise jealous by dangling other girls in front of her (shock!), but she ultimately ended up with him again during her birthday trip to Dubai.

These days, the fact that Louise and Jamie once dated and he was head-over-heels for her is never, ever mentioned. Which is, y’know, a bit odd.

4. When Binky dated Jamie

We’d forgive you for forgetting all about this one, particularly now that Binks is a mummy and happily loved-up with her former co-star Josh ‘JP’ Patterson. But there was a time when Binky and Jamie had something of a flirtationship going on on-screen.

Hitting viewers a little out of left field during series four, close friends Binky and Jamie ended up sharing a few kisses and deciding to go on a date. (Side note: the wannabe lothario actually ended up taking her to the very same place he’d previously been with Louise. Rookie mistake, mate.)

Taking quite a bit of time to make up his mind about whether or not he wanted to be with her, Jamie finally confessed his feelings in emotional scenes at a group weekend break only to regret them the following morning.

It took a scalding from Binky’s formidable mother to provoke Jamie into eventually apologising.

5. When Millie slapped Spencer

The Louise/Spencer drama was always on the back-burner during the earlier seasons of Made in Chelsea, but we have to give a special shout-out to that slap.

At the end of series four, Francis Boulle dropped the news that Spencer had cheated on Louise. Whilst we might not have been all that surprised, Millie led the way in confronting him.

When he denied it all (because of course he did), she clapped him around the cheek (“THIS IS WHAT YOU’VE F**KING DONE!”) much to smug Spenny’s surprise (“Are you taking the piss?!”).

6. When Lucy Watson and her RBF exploded onto our screens

Still one of our favourite MiC stars of all time, this sassy SW3 lady arrived in series four.

Diving head-first into all the drama, Lucy had a drink with Jamie (just after he’d let Binky down) and then went on a date with fellow newcomer Andy Jordan.

All of this lead to that now-famous dinner table scene, which saw many of the Chelsea girls ganging up on Lisa and culminated in Miss Watson asking everyone why they were “getting up in her grill”.

Iconic.

7. When Louise Thompson had a ‘thing’ with a member of One Direction

Of course, any good ‘reality’ show spills into real life, but this MiC plot hit headlines everywhere thanks to its (alleged!) connection to one of the biggest boy bands on the planet.

Andy Jordan and Louise had a pretty rocky relationship at the best of times, but when he confronted her on-screen about a ‘cheating’ allegation that he’d heard, viewers – at least those who read the gossip mags – already knew what he was referencing.

Louise’s boyfriend quizzed her over rumours that she’d stayed the night at a male friend’s house.

Said ‘friend’ went unnamed on the show, but fellow cast member Ollie Locke tweeted what we were all thinking during the episode: “You realise this ‘friend’ is Niall from One Direction! #Louise #Madeinchelsea.”

Juicy.

The 1D singer later spoke out against the idea, telling Fabulous magazine: “One meeting turned into a big story, which is ridiculous, so that’s the end of that.”

Still, it made for a cracking episode.

Made in Chelsea airs on E4 every Monday.
