7 Coronation Street spoilers reveal what's next in Sally Metcalfe's prison storyline

Coronation Street has pulled its favourite storyline trick this week – condemning a hugely popular character to a long stint behind bars for a crime she didn’t commit.

This time, it’s been Sally Metcalfe’s turn to get wrongly accused and she’s now facing a four-year jail sentence after being found guilty of fraud, bribery and money laundering.

So, what’s next for Sally, aside from horrible prison food and the traditional tense family visits? Here, we’re rounding up seven big spoilers for the future of the plot.

1. No exit for Sally

Let’s get the most important one out of the way first – Corrie bosses haven’t suddenly decided to drop the axe on Sally after 32 years on the show. Phew.

When Sally’s three guilty verdicts came in at the start of this week, some viewers naturally wondered whether it could be the end of her time on the cobbles.

The good news is that Sally won’t be disappearing from our screens and, just like when she was on remand, we’ll continue to see how she’s getting on behind bars. At least Corrie is getting its money’s worth from that prison set, right?

2. Gina schemes against her sister

Not content with screwing things up royally for Sally when acting as her character witness this week, Gina will start to become increasingly cunning as she puts her own feelings first. Gina has fallen head over heels for Sally’s husband Tim while she’s been locked up, so the current marital tension between the Metcalfes is working in her favour.

Friday night’s episodes see Gina lie to Sally, making out that Tim doesn’t want to talk to her after everything that’s happened. Sophie offers to talk Tim round, but Gina is quick to stamp on her plan.

Later on, Sophie lets Tim know how desperate Sally is to speak to him, but he’s confused and admits that Gina told him exactly the opposite. Probably a sign to stop listening to her, Tim!

3. The rift between Sally and Tim widens

Despite those tell-tale signs that Gina is causing trouble, the sad news is that the Metcalfes will continue to be affected by her secret scheming.

When Tim decides that it’s time to talk to Sally, she confides in Gina about how glad she is that her husband may finally be seeing sense. This isn’t exactly music to Gina’s ears, so she tells Sally that she shouldn’t bother with the meeting yet as Tim is still too angry with her.

Unaware of the reason why, Tim is upset when Sally mysteriously cancels their meeting. Looks like this one could rumble on for a while…

4. Sally’s Christmas behind bars

Were you hoping that Sally’s ordeal would be all over by Christmas? Bad news, we’re afraid – there’s no such luck.

Corrie‘s recently-released Christmas spoilers confirmed that Sally will remain behind bars over the festive season, forcing her to face the devastation of being separated from her loved ones at the most wonderful time of the year.

After recently demanding yoga classes and other recreational activities behind bars, will Sally’s next campaign be improving the quality of the prison Christmas dinners?

5. Gina makes her move?

Gina’s feelings for Tim also look set to come to a head over the festive period. Show bosses have confirmed that Gina will continue her deceit by playing the Metcalfes off against each other, leaving Tim drowning his sorrows over his fractured marriage.

Gina makes sure that she’s never far away to offer a shoulder to cry on, but will the Christmas season be her time to make a move on Tim? If so, how will he respond?

6. The tables turn on dodgy Duncan

Don’t be too harsh on Gina, as despite her terrible behaviour in the immediate future, she could be the one who ultimately saves Sally in the long-run.

Digital Spy recently published paparazzi pictures showing the Corrie cast and crew filming scenes which will see Gina try to expose Duncan’s true colours once and for all.

When Duncan uses a public phone box to make a sneaky phone call, Gina is hot on his heels and enlists the help of a beggar to eavesdrop on his conversation. Who is Duncan calling and could this be the evidence needed to get Sally off the hook?

7. Imran’s guilty conscience

Local solicitor Imran may have helped to secure a lenient suspended sentence for Duncan, but it’s a hollow victory for him as he’s starting to suspect that representing the cunning conman was a terrible mistake.

Wednesday night’s double bill saw Imran consult with Adam over Duncan’s strange reaction to his punishment, explaining: “He said he got off lightly. Is that the kind of thing you would say if you were coerced into committing a crime? Wouldn’t you feel like justice had been done or angry that you’d been put through it at all?”

Imran may soon be distracted by dramas with his sister Rana, but his guilty conscience over Sally may well continue to weigh heavily on him as she continues to rot in jail. Could Corrie be hinting that Imran plays a role in Duncan’s inevitable downfall?
