TV producers will tell you the thrill of live TV is all about “energy”. Nope. It’s the morbid hope that something utterly horrific is about to play out in front of our eyes.
And then on those few occasions when it does happen… Yeesh. This is what the 30-second delay was made for.

1. Bobby Davro in the stocks
OK, this one didn’t actually ever air on TV, but damn. Bobby Davro was lucky to survive this bizarre accident, in which the stocks he was trapped in fell to the ground face first, all while his trousers were round his ankles and Jim Bowen, Lionel Blair and Keith Chegwin danced around him. We’re not sure which bit of that is worse.
2. Poland’s Got Talent star impales a TV host’s hand
If you’re going to get a magic trick wrong, you can at least be polite enough to impale your own hand rather than a reluctant volunteer. Marzena Rogalska later tweeted that she was fine after being rushed to hospital thanks to Pan Ząbek’s blunder. Still, not as horrific as his hair.
3. A reporter is stabbed through a “stab-proof” vest
If you’re showing off your new invention on live TV to millions of viewers, maybe make sure the ruddy thing works first. Especially if knives are involved.
4. Vietnam’s Got Talent hopeful accidentally drinks acid
You have to hand it to Tan Phat, who tried his absolute best to style out DRINKING ACID. We have a stronger reaction after too much Frank’s Red Hot sauce. He went to hospital with burns but was released soon after.
5. Anthea Turner’s big explosion

This video is pretty damn shocking, but thankfully Anthea was okay (well, as okay as one can be after a motorbike explodes behind you and sets your hair on fire). She successfully sued the BBC.
6. Alesha Dixon nearly kills a stuntman with a crossbow
From 2016’s Britain’s Got Talent, a malfunction saw judge Alesha accidentally fire two crossbows at once, with one seemingly hitting Ben Blaque right in the stomach. Somehow, he was all right, much to Alesha’s relief and Simon’s annoyance.
