You can stay in a wine barrel hotel in Germany with bottles of booze delivered to your door – The Sun

WINE enthusiasts can immerse themselves in their favourite tipple by staying in a wine barrel hotel room.

Found in the village of Sasbachwalden in Germany, the barrels were once used to store the wine in the local vineyard.

There are six 'rooms' on offer at Schlafen im Weinfass – which translates to 'Sleeping in the Wine Barrel' in German.

Each one has two barrels for couples to share – one with a bed, and another with an eco-toilet and living area.

The 8,000 litre barrels can even be stayed in during the winter as they are heated throughout the year.

For the summer months, a stone patio with a table and chairs overlook the valley, with guests able to enjoy their breakfast with a view.

With each barrel having a view of the vineyard thanks to glass fronted doors and windows, guests will even be able to try the local produce from the Alde Gott winery for themselves.

A welcome bottle of wine is given to all guests, along with breads and snacks for dinner.

Breakfast also arrives on the doorstep in the morning, with pastries, meats and cheeses delivered by the family who run the hotel.

Fans of the wine can even buy it from the vineyard online to enjoy back in the UK.

Wine-lovers should also take the time to head to the village of Sasbachwalden.

Located in the Black Forest, iconic for the creation of the Black Forest Gateau, the area is also known for its production of wine.

Tours of the local vineyards take place in the village every week, as well as the annual Wine Festival which takes place in October.

Rooms start from £135 per night for two people, including breakfast and wine – although most rooms are sold out until October 2020.

It isn't the only place in the world where you can stay in a wine barrel – a region in Portugal also offers a similar experience.

Guests can stay in a barrel in the 280-year-old vineyard in Douro with full day tours including wine tastings also on offer.

Other weird hotel stays include a hotel shaped like a guitar and one that is shaped like a colon.
