Premier Inn is opening new hotels on a host of beautiful British islands

Premier Inn has revealed where it's building some new hotels and it's picked some pretty spectacular island locations.

The budget hotel chain has its eyes set on the islands of Jersey and Shetland, where it plans to build two new hotels.

It's already secured planning application for a hotel in Lerwick, Shetland, and has submitted one for a hotel in St Helier, Jersey. (It already has a hotel at the latter on Charing Cross).

It's no surprise that the two islands are firmly on the chain's radar.

Jersey is filled with heaps of brilliant things to see and do not to mention it offers a vibrant foodie scene , while Shetland is home to those picture-perfect landscapes Scotland is renowned for.

Oh, and of course no trip to the Shetland Islands is complete without a glimpse of one of the adorable ponies which take their name from their home.

(Not to mention TV fans may recognise the landscapes used as locations for BBC's Shetland series) .

The new hotels come after the brand revealed a growing trend for a 'Middi-break' where Brits are increasingly choosing to holiday in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight instead of European breaks or long-haul destinations.

The new island sites as well as existing ones represent a multi-million pound investment for the Premier Inn, which has already been expanding its offering on island locations.

In fact it expects to over 750 bedrooms for guests at island locations, not to mention the company says it should create over 200 year-round jobs for the islands.

The brand already boasts a series of picturesque island locations.

For example, it has hotels open on the Isle of Man in Douglas, and the Isle of Wight in Newport and Sandown .

A third hotel on the Isle of Wight is currently under construction.

Also in the pipeline is a hotel in Guernsey's St Peter Port, where the company says it has secured a leasehold.
