Manchester Airport baggage team under fire AGAIN as suitcases crash off carousel

Passenger Phil Bradbury captured the chaotic scene when he landed at the airport on Wednesday.

Suitcases are seen piling up and falling on to the terminal floor before passengers – still making their way through passport control – were on hand to rescue them.

Baggage handling staff were seemingly absent, according to Mr Bradbury.

Wednesday's incident comes in the wake of a video last week, which showed Swissport ground handlers at Manchester Airport throwing bags on to a trailer with such force they fell on to the runway.

Phil said: "Another bit of quality service provided by Manchester Airport baggage handlers.

He added:"One of the service workers looked, turned his back and then walked off, another was sitting playing on his phone oblivious to what was happening."

Phil was picking his bag up from a neighbouring baggage carousel at the time, after flying in from Mauritius via Dubai at around 1pm.

Manchester Airport said the pile-up was caused by a blockage.

A spokesperson said: “On this occasion baggage was loaded, by handling agents, onto a carousel before passengers had arrived at the reclaim belts."

They continued: "Unfortunately a blockage occurred and some of the baggage ended up on the floor. We will be speaking to the handling agent concerned to ensure any future occurrences are quickly rectified.”

Following the September 20 incident, recorded by passenger Elizabeth Evans on a Ryanair flight, the airport urged Swissport to take 'robust action' against the staff members involved.

Following the incident, holidaymakers shared shocking photos of their battered suitcases after their bags were hurled onto the trailer.

Swissport, meanwhile, have described that incident as "isolated" and have launched an investigation into what happened.

The treatment of luggage is in stark contrast to footage of a baggage handler at Johannesburg Airport that surfaced this week, turning suitcases upright before they are returned to their owners in the reclaim hall.

In the clip, the man is seen efficiently turned suitcases round and tidied them into a more uniform fashion as they come onto the luggage carousel to make it easier for passengers to collect.
