JetBlue airline launches transatlantic flights with private suites in the Economy cabin – each with a lie-flat bed

AMERICAN airline JetBlue is launching flights to London – with private suites in economy.

The flights will be the first transatlantic flights for the affordable airline, which will connect the US and the UK.

Prices for the new economy suites are yet to be revealed.

The aircraft will feature 24 individual suites located in economy with a fully enclosed area that has lie-flat beds.

They each include wireless charging, 17-inch entertainment systems as well as plugs and laptop storage.

The Mint Studio, the largest suite onboard, will be able to fit two travellers, with the largest bed on a US aircraft, which the airline claims is so big thatpassengers can 'starfish' on it.

There will be just two onboard at the front of the plane, and they will also include an amenities kit with a memory foam pillow, sleeping kit with eye mask and ear plugs, and a blanket with a built-in foot pocket.

The 'Mint' experience is something that JetBlue launched to offer "premium travel at un-premium price" back in 2014.

Joanna Geraghty, president and chief operating officer, explained: "Mint was an idea to make premium travel across the U.S. less stuffy and more affordable, and its performance has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations of going beyond New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco."

While the airline is yet to reveal the full cost, but is great news for budget travellers wanting a bit of luxury.

The new suites will compete with Virgin and British Airways who also connect the UK and the US.

In 2019, JetBlue announced plans to launch daily cheap flights from New York and Boston to London.

London will become the first European destination served by the US airline, starting later this year.

Travelling to the US isn't likely to return any time soon as the US borders remain closed to the UK due to the pandemic.

Holidays are also banned as the UK lockdown prevents any non-essential travel which is likely to last until next month.
