Furious passengers stranded on Virgin Atlantic plane for seven hours after two tyres burst – only for it to be cancelled

After the long delay on the tarmac, the airline then cancelled the flight altogether.

The London Heathrow-bound flight was due to leave Hong Kong Airport at 11:55pm last Friday.

While taxiing, two of the plane's tyres were punctured by debris on the tarmac, according to Hong Kong news website Coconuts.co.

Instead of allowing passengers to disembark, they were kept on the plane for the next seven hours, with very little food according to the report.

A passenger who only gave his name as Stephane told Coconuts.co: "Water was provided and only a tiny packet (10g) of pretzels and a mini muffin… we were so hungry."

They were only allowed off the plane at 6:26am.

Passengers took to social media after their flight was then cancelled

The flight was then cancelled as the cabin crew were not allowed to work over a certain number of hours in one day.

Stephane said "everyone was fuming," with passengers shouting at the pilot when being told to leave the plane.

Some passengers on the flight took to social media to complain about the incident.

Twitter user Keith Axford wrote: "Plane cancelled yesterday by 24 hours and now delayed by 2 more today. Nobody explaining what is going on.

"This is terrible Virgin. Let them know what’s happening for God’s sake!"

Passenger Kelly Edwards initially praised the staff for handling the issue before changing her mind.

She wrote: "Scrap my previous tweet..appalling service!

"The technical fault of the plane isn't the issue. We've been left to sit on a plane for 7 hours before they cancelled it."

Passengers were unable to fly that morning and were forced to take a flight the following day, 24-hours later than planned.

Virgin Atlantic told Sun Online Travel they would be giving compensation under EU261 regulation.

A spokesperson said: "On pushback from the gate, our VS207 from Hong Kong to London Heathrow on February 1 sustained damage to its tyres.

"Repairs could not be completed within our cabin crew hours and unfortunately the flight was delayed overnight.

"The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority and we’d would like to apologise for the delay and inconvenience caused.

"The flight departed on February 2 and all customers arrived in London safely the following day."

Earlier this week, Ryanair passengers were stuck on a plane for six hours after being delayed due to weather conditions.

The Prague to Madrid flight was stuck on the tarmac with passengers unable to depart the plane, leading to some experiencing anxiety attacks.
